String Sculptures in the Sanctuary

For our series on the Lord’s Prayer, we sang “Down in the River to Pray” as our weekly theme song. This string sculpture evokes the ripples and waves of the river water.

The construction of this sculpture was fairly simple. I used fishing line to criss-cross the room to create an interesting symmetrical, geometric "frame.” Then, I cut long strands of white string of the same length and taped them to the fishing line. The geometry of the lines together with the single length of string created the swooping, wave-like shapes that draped down over the congregation.
